SEE thematic virtual meeting rooms
Jun 30th, 2008 by Hans De Keulenaer
At the last SEE webmeeting, an action was defined to set-up virtual meeting rooms on SEE thematic areas. Eight such meeting rooms have now been created, and are available for discussion. Additional meeting rooms are easy to add (please put your suggestions as comments here).
I hope this set-up meets your expectations. It is simple, but therefore should be easy to use.
Carbon strategy in 2009
Jun 30th, 2008 by Hans De Keulenaer
With the expected underspend in 2008, related to the apparent need for much stronger central coordination, I would like to hear from the SEE team about your expectations for MDP-9965 (Carbon Strategy) in 2009.
SEE proposal on e-learning
Jun 30th, 2008 by Hans De Keulenaer
We’re considering a new MDP proposal on e-learning, based on 2 main components:
- LPQIVES, the vocational education system on power quality, which has developed 10 modules (introduction, harmonics, voltage fluctuations, surges & transients, reliability, earthing, static converters, reactive power & unbalance, distributed energy sources & storage, utility package (including DSM)
- RETScreen, with its comprehensive set of modules on energy efficiency and renewable energy
Combined, these offer scope of an e-learning programme with well over 100 of hours of training (about 4,000 – 5,000 slides).
We would like to learn who would be interested in working in this area. Also, if other SEE proposals are in preparation on this subject, we should coordinate.
Energy policy themes for 2009
Jun 27th, 2008 by Hans De Keulenaer
In preparing next year’s proposal for the global energy policy platform, we’d like to hear from you which policy themes most matter to you for 2009. Not all themes listed below may have a big impact on copper (though we sometimes lack a bit of imagination – remember that ‘only’ a third of copper is consumed in equipment and we should not forget about the other 2 thirds).
So thanks for your input to this poll:
Which themes would you like the global energy policy platform to cover during 2009?

A discussion protocol for this site
Jun 26th, 2008 by Hans De Keulenaer
This site and its discussions need a protocol. The protocol normally lists how long discussions are kept open, how they are concluded, what appeal procedures are in place, what topics / language is off-limits, etc.
For the E&E team in Europe, we have adopted this protocol which may serve as a starting point.
Comments welcome. I suggest that this forum, its moderation and its protocol is added to the forthcoming SEE webmeeting agenda.
Knowledge management / market intelligence
Jun 16th, 2008 by Hans De Keulenaer
The European team has been running a diigo bookmarking group on sustainable energy, which now has about 1700 entries and 30-something members. You may wish to join this group. You will need a diigo account, but registration is free of charge. You can set alerts to receive e-mail immediately, or on a daily or weekly basis.
Invitation to join SEE Community of Practice
Jun 16th, 2008 by Hans De Keulenaer
Dear Colleague :
We are pleased to inform you of the launch of the ICA ‘Sustainable Electrical Energy Community of Practice’ or ‘SEE CoP’.
A Community of Practice is defined as “ a group of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly”.
The SEE CoP shall interact through a dedicated website conveniently compartmentalized into theme oriented chapters and “rooms”. In addition to affording the convenience of posting and reading information at times to suit individual convenience, the planning site would be complemented by regular web meetings on topics of mutual interest to the community.
The SEE CoP membership is open to all employees in the Network who are involved with SEE Programs and activities in any way.
We hereby invite you to join the SEE CoP by adding a comment to this post. Please do so by June 25 in order to become a ‘founding member’. In your reply, please also indicate your areas of interest, referring to the table below.
Thank you.
Best Regards
Victor Zhou / Hans de Keulenaer
